The Osprey is often mistaken for the bald eagle because it is a large raptor with similar markings. But, when we spotted this guy so close above our kayak dock, there was no mistaking it. The Osprey readily builds its nest on man made structures, such as telephone poles, and channel markers, giving us an opportunity to see this majestic angler. It is believed that Osprey are so efficient at fishing that they catch fish on 1 out of 4 of every dives. That’s a success rate of almost 25%! They are as beautiful as they are tenacious. Bird watching in the winter means some great finds on the Elkhorn Slough.
